V. Spellcasting

Contents

Cantrip Pips

Casting Cantrips requires Cantrip Pips. Pips can manifest themselves however you deem appropriate for your character. Some examples might include: scraps of arcane notes, prayer beads, sprigs of mistletoe, et cetera.

Pips consume an inventory slot and utilize the Resource Die tracking rule (see: Inventory & Equipment). Pips have a maximum d12 Resource Die and are reset to maximum after completing a Long Rest.

Ritual Casting

You must remain stationary while casting a ritual spell. Any interruptions to the ritual casting will end the spellcasting attempt and the caster will need to spend the full casting time to reattempt the spell.

Spellcasting Components

Material (M)

You must have the necessary material components to cast a spell. Simple materials are available in the component pouch or can be replaced with an arcane focus.

Spells requiring spell components with a monetary value must have those specific components on hand. Specific components are only consumed of specified by the spell description.

Somatic (S)

You must have at least one hand free to cast a spell.

Verbal (V)

The verbal component of a spell is spoken in a reasonably loud and clear voice as one might expect to use in a busy restaurant or similarly noisy environment. You may shout your verbal component for dramatic purposes but a spell cannot be whispered.

Spell Targeting

Area of Effect spells must be targeted in a grid square. The shape of the Area of Effect is determined by the Token method found in Xanathar's Guide to Everything (pg. 87).
