VIII. Rest & Downtime

Contents

Sleeping in Armor

Sleeping in light armor has no adverse effect on the wearer, but sleeping in medium or heavy armor makes it difficult to recover fully during a long rest.

When you finish a long rest during which you slept in medium or heavy armor, you do not recover hit points and you regain only one quarter of your spent Hit Dice (minimum of one die). If you have any levels of exhaustion, the rest doesn't reduce your exhaustion level.

Lifestyle Expenses

You must select a Lifestyle and cover its associated expenses (PHB, pgs. 157 - 158).

You must continue paying your Lifestyle Expenses even when delving into dungeons or exploring the wilderness. These expenses cover your room back in town and allow you to refill your rations parcel upon your return to safety.

Hireling Lifestyle Expenses

You are expected to cover your hirelings' lifestyle expenses. This is in addition to any wages or loot sharing arrangments you may have made with them.

Purchasing Above your Station

Your Lifestyle Expenses will cover normal food and beverage expenses. If you splurge however, purchasing some fine elven firewine on a poor lifestyle for example, you will need to cover the full cost of the purchase.

"I'd like to buy that man a drink..."

Your Lifestyle Expenses only provide for your needs. If you're purchasing something for another person, you will need to cover the full cost of the purchase.
